Home About Us

We are a close-knit neighborhood, a community of learners, a family first

Our teachers and staff treasure the natural curiosity, enthusiasm and innocence that children bring to the school environment.  We cherish that openness, nurture it, and build upon it.

Our Strong Curriculum Makes Us Stand Apart

Since Armitage Academy's inception, we've set high standards for our teachers, staff and our students. We're recognized for our highly creative and challenging curriculum. Our students leave here well prepared for their secondary school career and beyond.

"Armitage would not be the place it is today without its fabulous staff and teachers. As well, I would not be the person that I am today without the guidance, watchful eye and friendliness that the staff and teachers and my class have given me. Everyone has provided me with an opportunity to grow and learn somewhere that I feel I can do so. Armitage has helped me, as well as anyone else who attends here, be better prepared for our future." (Armitage Graduate)

The love of learning is constantly on display throughout the school. We Support Learning By Understanding Different Learning Styles

Armitage Academy cherishes the potential and individuality of each child. Our program draws out the very best in our students by providing a stimulating academic curriculum fortified with unique opportunities in the arts, physical education, and community service. Our students' accomplishments often exceed their anticipated grade level norms.

"My experience here has been an amazing one. Academically, I have flourished. My teachers are constantly urging me to leave my comfort zone and try something new. When I look at my progress over the years, the change has been astounding. There's no question that Armitage was the place for me." (Armitage Graduate)

We Measure Success In More Ways Than One

Because we believe that personal and academic growth thrives in a setting based on trust and respect, we expect everyone in our school community to act with integrity, initiative, and responsibility.

"While we were being taught all of the academic work, they were also teaching us something more. They were teaching us how to be better people. We were being taught life skills the whole time we were at Armitage. Much more than sharing your toys but things like how to communicate and what makes a good person." (Armitage Graduate)

We begin with the future in mind. The future for our children means a world in which they must be creative thinkers and problem solvers. Students must be able to adapt quickly to new environments; to work in groups and independently; to ask thoughtful questions and to provide intuitive solutions.

Experiential Learning Makes It Real

Education here extends beyond our school walls. Outdoor experiences, like canoeing the river you've just studied (as our 3rd graders do), help solidify classroom learning. Our students become engaged in the learning process and the result is happy, motivated learners.

Learning is Active

3rdcanoeChildren here move in and out of classrooms, flowing from homeroom to art, from the science lab to the auditorium for drama. This activity encourages responsibility as well as close relationships among students and teachers. Younger students interact with older students. Teachers from the upper elementary levels develop relationships with the younger children who will be their future students.

Our classrooms are open too so that teachers and children from different grade levels can collaborate on projects throughout the day. This movement adds to the energy found in the classrooms. Children are not confined to desks. They can be found throughout the school working on their Mapping the World by Heart project in 6th grade social studies or seated in a Conestoga wagon, as 1st graders "experience" life on the pioneer's Oregon Trail.

"Armitage not only provided our sons with a solid educational foundation, it has given them advantages they will carry with them throughout their lives. Award-winning teachers, cutting-edge programs, individual attention, parental involvement, and most of all caring,” comments one parent of two Armitage alums.

At our core, you’ll discover a belief in teaching to the whole child, a deep commitment to superior academic standards, and high expectations of what our students can achieve.

We are a school where every child is known.
