“Algebra is just numbers dressed up!”
                           - Armitage Math Student

Do you celebrate Pi Day? We do!

It’s just one of the many ways we make mathematics magical for our students. Pi comes alive on Celebrate Pi Day (March 14th) as we eat pie and play pi games, all in honor of the most revered mathematical constant: the number 3.14159...

Math at Armitage is not the traditional, sit-at-your desk recitation. Our young mathematicians make real-world mathematical connections. We find our students measuring the school on a quest to discover if a dinosaur might have fit in the building or figuring out how many Post-it® notes it would take to encircle the earth.

Our Math Program:
supports each student's individual progress;
introduces major math topics in earlier than traditional grade levels;
applies math principles in real world situations;
integrates math into other subject areas.

Mathematics at Armitage Academy encourages independent logical reasoning and intuitive mathematical thinking. The Everyday Math program used in grades K-5 provides the springboard for computational proficiency, and development of problem solving and critical thinking skills. Impact Mathematics is taught in grades 6-8 and readies our students to learn the equivalent of a full, first year algebra course over a three year period.

"The Armitage school store, class trip fundraisers, and after-school French bon-bon sales are all student managed. Students have the opportunity to learn responsibility, make change “on the fly,” and put math skills into real world application," says Jennifer Golwitzer, fourth grade teacher.
