Expression and Performance

The performing arts provide a way to express ideas, to be creative interpreting the works of others, and to learn effective communication skills. All students perform on stage in musical theater, dance, and dramatic productions.

Emphasis is placed on the development of expressiveness and voice projection, creative movement, use of imagination to create characters and acting out simple scenes, and developing stage presence.

In the elementary grades, students engage in spontaneous dramatic play, characterizations, and celebrations that arise from imagination and personal experiences. The following concepts are covered in K-3 drama class: movement exploration, understanding of self/general space, pantomime, emotions, senses, role playing, performance, audience etiquette, vocal expression, improvisation, senses, puppetry, poetry, character development, and reader’s theatre.

Our K-5 students perform and produce a musical theater production and middle school students put on a dramatic play. This year the 1st thru 5th grade classes presented the musical SchoolHouse Rock Live while the 6th thru 8th grades put on an interactive comedy, The Clumsy Custard Horror Show.
